Logging Multiple Clips (Batch Log)
The instructions below will help you quickly get your footage online and available for licensing with a basic log for a batch of clips. The multiple clip (or batch) edit mode functions in the very much same way as the single clip edit mode. The key differences are:
A) instead of a thumbnail image of the clip, you will see a placeholder indicating how many clips you are editing;
B) your saved changes will apply across all selected clips in the batch edit.
How to Batch Log Your Clips:
- To select multiple clips, click the 'Select All' button, or mouse over the individual clip(s) you would like to log by clicking the white checkbox on the upper right corner of the clip thumbnail frame - selected clips will be highlighted.
- Chose the 'Log selected' option from the Actions dropdown menu above your clips.
- Begin logging, but please note:
- Changes to single option fields (Category, License Type, etc.) will automatically overwrite existing values.
- Changes to fields that are not single option (i.e., Description, or any of the keyword fields) will append your changes by default unless you check the 'overwrite existing values' checkbox.
- Click the 'Save Data' button to apply your changes to the selected batch of clips.
- Confirm that the logged clip(s) are online by the status indicator (green or red dot) next to the clip ID(s).
When batch logging your clips, please be sure to only add keywords that match what is seen in the footage. Adding the same keywords to every clip regardless of the different actions visible in each clips is "Spam Logging", which occurs when keywords unrelated to a clip's action, behavior, species, location, etc. are added to the clip in order for it to appear in more search results. The problem with this is that it floods search results with clips unrelated to the subject that a client is looking for. Please only log your clips with keywords that specifically match the action, behavior, species, location, etc. in each individual clip.

The best way to batch log your footage is to batch log in stages. Start by logging your batch of clips with keywords that all of your clips in the batch share, such as location, habitat, species, time of day, and Category (i.e. "Nature & Wildlife" or "Ocean & Underwater"). Then log smaller batches of clips that feature the same behaviors, shot type, concept, etc. With this method, your logging will be more accurate, and it will be easier for clients to find the footage they are looking for.
